Depends on what the software is, how much in demand it is, how well it was programmed, its functions and competitors. We always have to take into consideration that there are professionals companies out there making similar programs that are bound to be better than any individual's personal program. I do agree with M Nabil that you should just make it free and get revenue off adsense. Making it open source is bound to get you more money as well. Good luck!
