CSS Websites .com - 02-07-2006, 11:18 PM

Hi!

I have an offer for CSS Websites (dot com). They are pretty obviously low-balling me on the name, so I have to make some decisions and reply.

What do you think this name is worth? It has no Page Ranking and has never been promoted or even submitted to the search engines, and yet it does pay for itself and then some on type-ins alone.

It is currently registered until January, 2, 2008.

I am obviously more serious about this name than the potential buyer. How should I answer his/her extremely low offer without sounding insulting?

I could use some money right now, but the current offer is pretty ridiculous and I have no problem passing it up, but I would like to come up with a decent counter offer that is reasonable and erxpress my appreciation for thier interest despite the low baller bid.

I get offers like this once in a while, but they always disappear after my comeback. I want to make sure that I am not expecting the world or returning insults.

Any tips, hints, insights and/or views on the value of the Domain as well as how I should handle my counter offer at Sedo, will be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance. -Doug

Thanks for your input, mehmeh...

I obviously disagree, and rejected a $600.00 bid. Other domain pros tell me to take no less than $2500.00, although I was looking for less than that.

The reason that this domain will become important, in my opinion, is that IE7 will have MUCH better CSS support. IE6 was so lacking in CSS support that many designers didn't use CSS apart from shortcuts, drop-out/down menus and Search Engine Optimization, because IE6 would break when doing ANY creative design, even if it was a CSS standard compliant web page.

The truth is that IE6 was released as such, no proper CSS support. Even now, this name would make a great site offering ways to get around the IE6 lack of Cascading Syle Sheets support.

Maybe Microsoft wanted to come-up with its own standard? Designers have been facing this incredible incapability to design efficeint creative pages for quite some time (since before IE6 was released and IE6 was released a VERY LONG Time ago).

It is also doubtful that another standard will replace CSS. It is a web design staple just like HTML and once IE7 is out and stable, no one will have excuses to not use it, as FireFox, Safari, Opera, Kommander and all sorts of other browsers have been supporting CSS standards for years.

But, I do appreciate your input. You might just be right and I lost the biggest sale I would ever sell this domain for. But it's worth well over $1500.00 to me for holding onto it and developing it. This is simply because I do design websites, though. Another bonus is that the domain not only pays for itself in PPC traffic every month, but another, as well.

But thanks for your reply. I am grateful to have any input at all. -Doug

I disagree with mehmeh and like the domain name. I would say high XXX to low XXXX with proper development. So I can understand that domainer rejected the $600 offer. It may just take a while to get another good offer.

A great domain there uve got Domainer...
I suggest instead of selling the domain, develop it on the lines of cssZenGarden.com or something more unique than that, get some Page Ranking...u can always sell the domain later on, afterall u have it till 2008
And a developed domain sure sells more than a PR0 undeveloped domain

That's certainly great advice, pairbrother. I do agree with that assessment. Unfortunately, as I am holding onto well over 600 domains currently, deciding on and getting to each development project I have takes some time.

But I agree, that would be the best path for that domain. And it is in line for development. But I have a few smaller projects to take care of first.

Thanks for your reply as well, charly11. Patience is a BIG part of this business, and I totally agree with you, as well.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

I was actually willing to sell the Domain for $2100 when they came up with the original $300.00 offer, but when they countered the 2100.00 with $600.00, I broke off negotiations. The 2100 was as low as I would have gone at the time and from the feedback I have gotten here as well as in other Domain Forums, that was just plain too low.

But I think I will move it up the list of sites that I need to develop.

Thanks, All! -Doug

LOL...

Hi Mehmeh. Yup, we have all run into those moments before. We will again. No problem.

I have to laugh when I think of the names I didn't get (at the time).

Have a good one! -Doug
