How does parking work?

Could someone explain to me how domain parking works? Is it like having your domain name in the list for a search engine? What do you get paid for? (each click?) Do you use keywords or do the people have to search for a specific thing to get a link to your site? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Parking means you register a domain but do not put any content on it. You can monetize on traffic by having ads on it. Sedo is a provider of these ads, so you can have your domain parked with Sedo and they take care of having relevant ads displayed and distribute revenue to you.

I believe Sedo gets most (if not all) of their ads from Google AdSense, which is interesting, because you are not allowed yourself to put AdSense on a parked page.

Another interesting thing is that a lot of domains get registered and people never do anything with it. These domains used to sit just there and have a text "Coming Soon" and maybe a link to the registrar. Companies like GoDaddy are now starting to monetize on this traffic by putting ads on these sites themselves with no revenue distribution to the owner (who does not even know or understand what is going on). So all these people with their domains just sitting there have opened up a new revenue stream to the registrar.

Therefore, if you have a domain and are not doing anything with it, you should at least park it somewhere you get revenue distribution. It may pay for a nice dinner sooner or later

Domain parking helps in two ways.
1. It lets you generate revenue without developing a domain. You can show pay per click ads on it and generate some income.
2. There is always a possibility that your domain might get sold while parked.

How do you get people to click your ads without straight out asking? Dont you get in trouble for asking people to click your ads?

You are not allowed to ask people to click on the ads. That is called click fraud. People will click on the ads not because someone asks them to, but because the content of the ad relates to the website content and the user wants to find out more about the advertiser.

For example, you go to a page that hosts a forum about dogs. If there is an ad promoting dog toys you may click on it to see what dog toys that advertiser sells.

Parking works as above mentioned.
But it helps you a Lot in Losing Money.
Better put your Single page site and put PPC ads on them to get more results

Hmm. I have a domain I'm not using because I haven't started the web design yet. So you're saying I can still put advertising on it and make money? How do you get people there? Advertise your domain name? Then won't people think you're dumb for giving them the address when there's no site on it? I guess not if people are doing it. LOL

Well how do u think u will get traffic for the parked domains?
i meant that if you are getting traffic dont park it better setup your own site

If you are referring to me, no I do not currently get traffic to the site. It's pretty new. I didn't know it could get sold while being parked though???
