I have been a reseller for a domain registrar in Australia and the amount of profit that i make is extremely marginal compared to the discount wholesale price that i buy the domains for. Is anyone else finding this is the case with resellers and concluding that it is not worth the effort for the few dollars you might earn on domains? If there are any good reseller programs available, post them here!

Interesting. I don't make a great deal from my domain reseller business because I am always marketing my reseller and registration services to people who are already in the domain name business; webmasters, web designers, site developers, Search Engine Optimization pros, hosts & domainers. Usually I find that I am marketing to people who are already in the business.

I know that there is a new free reseller program. I have signed-up for it, but you need to deposit a min of $199.00 to activate the account. I certainly don't have that kind of money to tie-up, right now.

I know that I would earn more per sale if I increased my prices, but I am actually looking to decrease prices. I was thinking of creating a new store (that possibly would market the web hosting angle) which uses higher prices so that I could afford some PPC advertising in order to drive traffic to it. But I am still too busy with everything else I am doing, at the moment.

Certainly, I know that I have saved a considerable amount as a reseller. And the extra cash I get from the sales each month pay for the opperations on a yearly basis (in a bad month).

However, I do know that at first I was using a rather bad choice for my domain and business names. I went by SD Website Domains and I settled on somerthing much more generic, within a year. I think that move helped me a great deal.

If you operate as a Wild West Domains reseller and set your prices to the minimum retail price, you will have around a 10% margin, assuming you can sell some of the non-domain services with higher margins once in a while. The $1.99 domain promotion will lower your margin but attract more business in the long run.
