Profit? - 03-29-2006, 01:19 PM

I've been considering starting with a reseller for a few years now, but every time I play with the figures, it never seems that I would make much money. With the competitive pricing out there, it doesn't seem like it would be easy to be competitive and still make a good amount of money. For those of you who do reselling, how well do you do?

yeah i agree with you it's a top competition out there when it comes specifically to resellership esp. hosting resellership, been there done that, but my advise is to offer some VAS (value-added services) that you can't find out there maybe a couple ones like for myself I offer free promotion as well when someone hosts with my server even a reseller.

If you want to compete at low prices, you will have to sell large amounts of domains to make decent profit. If you sell at high prices, you will have to find someone willing to pay.

In any case, it is difficult. Even when investing in AdSense you will have a hard time as the competition is rough and you will have to play around a lot with your keywords.

The best way as another poster said is to offer it as an additional service to an existing customer base or as an additional service to another service / product that can be marketed more easily.

Having said that... Try it out - no risk no fun!

reselling is a difficult job and getting profits from it is even more.
you should think why should people buy from my store when the main store,[the store for which you are affiliate] is around for so many years.
also you must drive a lot of traffic for sales and also we get very low profits in sales .

That is true, the domain reselling market is a bit hard to enter nowadays, especially with the competitive pricing, and most people would want to go straight to the registrars instead of to resellers.

If you're offering hosting services, then you can try reselling domains as well so your customers can register domains for you instead. Or if you're doing design services, you can offer your clients domain registration as well. Those are some methods where you can sell domains along with other products or services.

The ideas you all posted are good I'm still considering the idea... don't know if I have the balls to go for it, though, lol. I'm probably going to be doing more research. Thanks for all the replies

Maybe you could offer something like free or discounted templates or web design for people who purchase hosting through you? Or, if you are any good at scripting, you could write custom scripts or something, or do program installations.

xombi, I like that web template idea. With free templates you can justify selling hosting for just a little bit more... I'd still be worried people would want to cheaper hosting from someone else, whether or not it comes with any extras. A lot of people see the cheaper prices and jump on them without caring about anythign else...

You could offer your domains to your friends. They'll probably prefer to buy from you because they know that if something messes up, you're in close proximity
