[resolved] Rep Grey/Green - 05-18-2007, 03:31 AM

Hey There.

May I ask why some of my rep additions are as Grey () and some are Green (). Why aren't they all green?

Thanks, Michael.

if you were repped with grey reputation, it pulls down your green rep. so make sure you are always repped by green ones.
esp me
too hard to control.

Well according to weblord it depends on the person who reps you and how many bars they have

Re: [resolved] Rep Grey/Green - 05-18-2007, 06:50 AM

*I know the thread is "resolved", but based on observation, the grey reps do not affect reputation [so you can actually have a lot of them, and it would not affect your rep power], and are not due to random factors.

The grey reps meant that the reputation is neutral. It could be because:
-The person giving out reputations have a low reputation himself/herself (rep power less than 1)
-The person giving out reputations have less than 50 posts

The greyed out reputation does not decrease nor increase your reputation.
The green reputation increases your reputation.
*The amount of reputation given or removed from a person depends on the other person's reputation and posts (e.g., weblord has 10, so he would be able to give a large amount of reputation points in a single reputation).
*This is by observation, and I don't think it's random, as the above factors coincides with what I found out

Yeah, I'm a tad confused as well. What does rep numbers actually get you?

Maybe we should write up a guide.

Re: [resolved] Rep Grey/Green - 05-18-2007, 06:15 PM

The guide to reputations and rep power
About rep power:
1) Your rep number is affected by the number of posts. In DDboard, you will automatically get a rep power of 0 initially.
However, as you get more posts, your rep power will increase. In ddboard, once you get over 50 posts, you get a rep power of 1. (I'm not sure about over 50 posts.)

2) Rep power is influenced by reputation. Getting reputations from others isn't enough. The person giving you a reputation must have a high rep power himself/herself (rep power of at least 1: the person must have reputation points of at least 10, as well as have at least 50 forum posts). Each reputation adds/deducts a certain amount of points to/from your reputation. The amount of points added/deducted is proportional to the user's amount of posts, and reputation. Maximum amount of points that can be added/deducted from a user's reputation points is 10.

There are several types of reputations:
-Positive reputation (Green): Adds to your reputation points [see below]. You receive this if the user has a rep power of at least 1, and the user decides to give you a positive reputation.
-Neutral reputation (Grey): No effect on your reputation. You receive this if the user has a rep power of less than 1 (regardless if the user wants to give you a positive/negative reputation).
-Negative reputation (Red): Deducts your reputation points. You receive this if the user has a rep power of at least 1 [or have 10 reputation points], and the user decides to give you a negative reputation.

About giving reputations:
-You can give an unlimited amount of reputations
-If you decide to give a reputation to a user you have given a reputation to before, you may have give reputations to (10) other users before doing so.
-You can give a maximum of 20 reputations in a single day (24 hours).
-The amount of reputation points you can add/deduct depends on the amount of posts you have, as well as rep power [see above].

About thief and reputation:
-If you use the "steal" feature in DDboard, you may lose some reputation. If you have an unsuccessful steal, you would lose 1 reputation point. Over stealing will result in your reputation points declining to a certain limit [usually until "0"].

Rep power, in integers:
-10 (10 green indicators): Admins usually have this.
-3 (2 green indicators): User receives a lot of positive reputations
-2 (1 green indicator): User receives a significant amount of positive reputations (probably 20 or 50 reputation points [not the same as rep power])
-1 (1 green indicator): User has at least 50 posts, and has little/no negative reputations. User's reputation points is at least 10.
-0 (): User may have less than 50 posts. If the user receives a negative reputation, the rep power decreases to 0 if it was at 1 (if user have >50 posts and has no positive reputations). Reputation points is range from 5 to 9 [I'm not sure about this].
-0 (): User may have received several negative reputations. Reputation points ranges from 0 to 5 [I'm not sure about this].
-0 (): User received several negative reputations. Reputation points is negative.
-0 (2): User received numerous negative reputations.
*These are the common reputations found on DDboard.

Common Reputation messages associated with rep power [more covered below]:
-10: [User] has a reputation beyond repute
-3, 2: [User] will become famous soon enough
-1, 0 (green or grey): [User] is on a distinguished road
-0 (1 red indicator): [User] has a little shameless behavior in the past
-0 (more than 1 red indicator): [User] is infamous around these parts

About reputation points and rep power:
*rep power increments stated below will determine your rep power.
Format: [Rep power]: [reputation points required] - [what you may get]
0: Have <0 reputation points - "[User] is infamous around these parts"
0: Have 0-10 reputation points - "[User] is an unknown quantity at this point"

1: Have at least 50 forum posts, or 10-99 reputation points
1: Have at 10-49 reputation - "[User] is on a distinguished road"
?: Have 50-149 reputation points - "[User] will become famous soon enough"
?: Have 100-199 reputation points - 2 green indicators

10: Have 1100-1299 reputation points - 9 green indicators
10: Have 1300-1999 reputation points - 10 green indicators
10: Have 1500-1999 reputation points - "[User] has a brilliant future", 11 green indicators
10: Have at least 2000 reputation points - "[User] has a reputation beyond repute"
*Assuming DDboard sticks to the defaults
*You will have a rep power of 10 once you have over 1000 reputation points, or have been active in DDboard for 10 years, or is an admin

About rep power increments:
+1: For every 1000 forum posts.
+1: For every year since the person have been a member of ddboard
+1: For every 100 reputation points you have
*Rep power cannot increment through this ways if your rep power is 0.
*User usually start with 0 [when rep power = 0]. Once they have a rep power of at least 1, they can add to/deduct from a user's reputation points [starts at 1].
*Maximum amount of reputation points that can be added/deducted is 10 [see above].
---
*You can see how many reputation points you have by visiting your control panel [if you receive some reputations before]. If you didn't receive any reputation before, you can assume your reputation point is 10 [most users start with this initial amount].
*Information derived from research. Some information from the vBulletin Manual and Some explanation of Reputation Points. Modified to suit DDboard.
*I hope this guide is useful.
