Commercial or Proprietary Control Panel Software - 04-02-2006, 03:57 AM

Which do you prefer when signing up with a host -- a commercial control panel software like Cpanel, Direct Admin, etc, or a proprietary one like what Dreamhost and other popular hosts have?

Before, I would never have signed up with a host that didn't use CPanel, but then when I tried Dreamhost's proprietary panel, I found out it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be -- and it was designed so you can manage multiple domains (real multiple domain hosting, not just add-ons), so now I'm glad I'm using it.

it's because cpanel is much more accepted today and with enabled fantastico addon on it, it's unresistible for me. so i still choose cpanel, but I can also do without it.

I would want to go for a control panel I am familiar with. The usual problem with internally developed control panels is there are some things that is important to you that you might not have.

Like Dreamhost, I can't seem to find my way into phpmyadmin, which is very important to me in making backups, restoring or moving.
