I am creating a band fansite and I was wondering if it was illegal to take lyrics off other lyric sites and copy/paste, cause those sites probably got it from users, and the users doubtfully have copyright laws. If it is illegal, how bout if i say "thanks to ____.com"?

the lyrics in fact are almost the same in every site... i'd be VERY difficult to identify if you took the lyrics from other site... so i guess you don't need to 'thank' any other site.

that's true, cause the lyrics are usually directly from lyrics booklet, which is legal to post, but still, somebody else put the work into typing them up, right? o.O

If it is a fan website, than it is k, you should make no problem with copying lyrics.
The problem would be if you would put videos and audio files to listen to.

no it's not illegal to post music lyrics to a fansite. I think as long as you don't sell them then it's copyright infringement. There changing so many laws you don't know good luck.

the lyrics of a song are the same on every website because they're lyrics of the same song
you can ask the artist for some promo songs to use on your website
