Is it legal? - 03-11-2007, 07:16 AM

Does any1 know if it's legal to copy an entire text from a website and put it on your site (referring the site's name)? Do I have to take the right from the site or what?

I think you have to ask for permission first, and then put the link referring to the other website. I've done it like i said and there was no problem ^^

yes you are right Dalmiant,
you should first ask for permission even if you like to put the source address.
if they allow then you can use it with their link.

you need to have persmission before you copy and paste the entire site but if you copy and past just some of the forum then i think you would not be caught..

Caught by who?
However, if they have the Creative Commons button on their website, you should contact the admin to request his/her permission. If not, then you should put the above mentioned text on your website and everything should be OK.

the best thing you can do is contact the source website's administrator and ask him if you can bublish the information on your website and of course you need to say where you've the information from

It's legal to do that, as it falls under the "creative commons" and "fair use" policies, since you have refered to the original source. However, there are some people who would place a special/sneaky contract on their site that may have some references to copying, and do look out for such things.

As long as plagarism is not involved, then it's legal.

But, it is still a good idea to contact the author of the content.
