GPL license ( open source ) ? ... copyright?

Hi,

well as I am curious to know this, can someone tell me about the copyright when we use GPL as a license for our open source script?

I mean can I omit the copyright statement when I use other's GPL open source licensed script?

I'm not sure about the GPL license, but the GNU Free Documentation License states this at the end:

Verbatim copying and distribution of this entire article is permitted in any medium without royalty provided this notice is preserved.

If you use any copyright (GPL, GNU, open source), it would be safe to keep the copyright notice.

It would be a good idea to keep the copyright notice in the code. It shows that you are not "stealing" the code from the original author and claiming it as your's [unintentionally].

*While open-sourced code can be copyrighted, if you made substantial changes to the code, you may have the right to remove the original copyright [upon notification of the original author. Does not apply if you have rewritten 99% of the code ].

Not true. The GPL licence requires you to notify the orignal author.

its up to you.. but if the opensource project is inactive, then, you can make a lot of changes without even notifying the author..
