I once wanted to remove copyrights from from coppermine,but I was not able to find where to remove them

If i'm not wrong, it is legal to remove. But i believe that the developers would appreaciate you not removing it and helping them pass the word of their hardwork on.

yes it's legal to remove the copyright as long as it's opensource I done it before.

Yeah it's legal but I'd also recommend to give the respect for the work done and there's no other way of doin so than showing their copyrights...

According to the GPL (which the product is licensed under), removing the copyright is legal. But as they say, near the copyright, they won't give you ANY support. Watch out for this on some other boards such as MyBB which has a policy against this. Always read the license before proceeding.

you can remove it from a template but i think you should leave a copy right to give credit for them

I wouldn't say it looks unprofessional. In some cases, the link at the bottom looks ugly, but in most it looks fine.
