is it really legal to remove the copyright sine it is not mentioned in any agreement. (only a request) anyone who can confirm this??

Yes you can remove it, It not Illigal.

Having said that, why should you remove that in the first place? They spend hours of hard work to produce that and its only a matter of respecting their work. It's not that harmful a thing. I Strongly believe, if you use a free stuff then should respect the creator who spend time and money behind it.

Please support them with a tiny comment on the footer.

According to the GPL u can remove it. You cannot however post the work as being your own. (sell it for profit, etc.)

Read through the GPL. Once something is GPL and 100% OPEN SOURCE, it means that it is community owned. If you send out something under GPL, people can edit it as they desire.

I also think that's it's best not to remove the copyrights if you really do respect the creator of this software but if you really do need to remove it, it's totally legal

I don't think so, but if you really want to remove it maybe you can look around the phpbb website to see if they have an advanced upgrade or something like that

Yeah, it's perfectly legal to do so, it's opensource. However I don't do it, seems disrespectful to the creators.

All of the webmasters wish their site look professional and these footers at the bottom would not. That might be the reason, removing copyright messages are desired by webmasters and not ojbected by developers!
