phpBB copyright

I downloaded a template for my phpBB forum, then changed every image and if you looked at it, you wouldnt be able to recognize it was the same template. is it legal to remove the link to their website (FI) at the bottom?

This is always a shady area in copyright, but I think most templates will provide an email address for you to contact them.

Send the creator of the template an email and see what s/he says.

yeah a good suggestion, when in doubt always contact the owner.
whatever he/she says then do it.

It's always nice to mention what template you have modified, to give credit to the people who did most of the work for you.

You can of course put the credits somewhere else, where you like it, instead of the bottom of every page.

If you get no answer to your messages, check the place you got it from, there should be some information on how you may use that template.

You can't remove their copyright notice. They have taken hard work and want to be notice by other. I think there may be read me file or instructions about using it while downloading.

phpbb should use the GPL license, if yes, you must keep the credits, even if you have modified the script

He was saying he took a theme (nothing to do with phpbb the company), and edited most of the images so it doesn't look like the original.



My opinion: It doesn't really hurt to leave a notice like that in, so you might as well just to be on the safe side.

yeah, i mentioned "script", its the package.If he has modified a skin made by the phpbb group, he should say it
