Re: limewire - 01-09-2007, 05:50 AM

I use limewire and I think its awesome, personally I think its partially legal and partially illegal or maybe theres some flaw in the law which Limewire is using to steer clear of trouble.Take for instance the case where the band "Metallica" sued the then popular Napster. If you buy a CD legally, you will see at the bottom in small letters "Unauthorised public performance, broadcasting and copying of this recording prohibited" so I guess Im kinda confused too!!

Ignorance is no defence as they say here in the UK... Surely it isn't legal to get a paid program for free, even if it's off their site?

Re: limewire - 01-10-2007, 08:01 AM

well heres the final result: Limewire = Legal
The legality mainly depends on how u use it. it is meant for peers to transfer files to each other such as photos and files not copyrighted by someone. downloading things such as music by famous artists and famous movies is illegal but the program itself is perfectly legal.

As I originally said

Anyway, I can't think of many reasons why you'd want to use it other than for pirating, so I'd recommend you stay clear of it.

Oh, somebody commented on Limewire using something to steer clear of trouble - I think they say that they developed the software, and it's not their fault how people use it (because the files aren't hosted on their servers, they're hosted on other people's computers and you download it from other people, hence the name p2p (peer to peer))
