LimeWire is great Peer to Peer (P2P) software! P2P software is legal and that's because all peoples sharing files between each other on network! You can read more about P2P [here] on Wikipedia!

The program itself is legal - you won't get in trouble for having it on your computer or using it, but it is illegal to use it to download stuff you shouldn't. Unfortunately, the majority of stuff you can download on it is illegal, and you can actually accidently download something illegal as sometimes the illegal stuff is disguised with filenames that make it sound legal.

My advice: Steer clear of it.

deep, BitTorrent can be used to get illegal content. (in fact, that's probably its greatest use). However, many large files are distributed over BitTorrent if the provider doesn't seem to have enough bandwidth. Many Linux ISOs are distributed this way, and you can get them at faster speeds over torrent than regular download with a sufficiently fast connection.

Think of it this way:

In america, guns are legal in some states. The gun isn't illegal, but using it to kill is. P2P and Bittorrent are legal, but not if you use it for illegal means - it's a great way to transfer files easily and fast.

QFT. That's exactly it, P2P is actually very useful (in fact some programs use P2P to distribute updates and such... I can't recall them off the top of my head but there are some.) Also, how would limewire be illegal? If they were illegal, they probably wouldn't be accepting PayPal payments...
