Can you get in trouble for registering similar domain names?

Such as:

google.com ----> gooogle.com
photobucket.com ---> photobuckets.com

yes recently proxifyme.com has lost his domain to proxify.com

The first thing that may happen is that you get a letter from the entity that thinks you are violating their trademark. They will most likely ask you to turn over the domain. If you refuse, you may end up in court, which can be expensive.

never ever ever reg a domain with ebay in it as they will drag you to court as soon as it is regged. They will get a fine on you for at least $1000.

google are very cautious on who has domains liek theirs
they also have the money to sue you
the same goes for other major companies/businesses
you have to be careful!

I don't know how legal it is, but I would not even try to do anything like that just because I don't have the money to fight those big companies if they did decide to sue me.

You don't stand a chance in court if you are facing someone with a somewhat valid trademark claim. That's why domains with potential trademark issues are not really worth much these days.

one of my first domains that i registered was www.PrinceOfPersia3D.info, later i came to know about the trademark and legal issues. I havent used that domain for anything, no development, no links, nothing.

If they contact me, ill hand it over to them!

What if you sell TM names to someone, can it still be an issue

You would just be out of your mind to try and register a domain like gooogle.com because as soon as google finds out - they will have you in court like the blink of an eye... It will become very expensive
