Let's say you have an idea for a very good domain name for your website, but upon checking, you see it was already registered. But when you visit the website, you see that it's not developed, and is just sitting around there, with no sign that it is for sale. But you check out the expiration date and see that it is expiring soon.
Will you email the owner and inquire about any possibility of selling the domain to you? Or will you just wait till the domain expires and backorder it? Or will you just forget the domain altogether?
I'm thinking of doing the first option, but with that, there is the possibility that the owner might ask for a very high price, knowing how you're interested in the domain. Or if the owner was originally intending to let it expire, he might suddenly realize its value and decide to renew it instead.
With the second option, it's possible that the owner might not let it expire after all. Or if the domain do drop, another drop-catch registrar might get it. Or even if the drop-catch registrar where you backordered the domain was the one who caught it, it's possible that there might be other people who backordered it, and the bidding wars could get too expensive.
The third option is hard to choose, since you really really want the domain, and it's the only one which could fit your site/business.
So what will you do? Which option would you choose? |
