Free Domains? - 02-09-2006, 05:09 PM

Are free domains any good? Or do you get what you pay for in this case?

Daisymae,

That would probably depend on what you were going to use it for. What were you looking to do with it?

Go to godaddy.com and register a domain. It comes with free (ad supported) hosting. Or buy a hosting package ($3.95 per month) at GoDaddy.com and have someone create a website. If you want it fast and are ok with a basic website you can also get their "Website Tonight" package which is a website builder. In that case you will not need hosting.

Sorry if I sound like a GoDaddy sales person (I am not), but i think GoDaddy offers great value for web newbies.

free domains means?...u can also register for a free domain at www.dot.tk. Here u will get a .tk extension, if thts wht u meant by free domains. Otherwise domains (.com, etc.) cost about 7-9$ per year.

Thanks for your insight Charly. I am glad you feel strongly enough about one to recommend. GoDaddy must be awesome, I will check it out.

pairbrother, I think I am going to go with a paid one. I would rather have a .com ending than something like .tk. Thanks for your help!

What you pay is what you get.
Free Domains have many limitations
so opt only for Paid ones

Lots of great information here! I was one considering a free one myself. This forum has changed my mind about that, and opened my eyes to new things! Thanks guys!
