Yahoo Directory VS 8k Directory Submissions

I've been having a serious dilemma trying to figure out how to spend my advertising budget. Like most people I haven't got a large budget so I am trying to figure out where to spend it to get the biggest impact. I found this company that will submit my website to 8,000 directories for $250, I tried it with 1,450 Directories on another website, but I am not getting a lot of traffic. Should I just spend the $299 to get this new website into the Yahoo Directory. What's your experience?

I figured that there might be other's out there that can do it even cheaper. But tell me, what's thousands of directory links really going to do for me?

Directory links are not solely for traffic generation - as they provide very minimal traffic. You invest in directory links so as to get backlinks and eventually help in your SERP ranking. Once you get high SERP position - thats when you get more traffic

If for blogs, try Technorati: Front Page for free.

Not suggest to spend too much on link directories unless for the very reputable one.
