What Do I Use For Designing Magazines and Books - 09-23-2006, 10:54 AM

I had to make a magazine for my friend last week and I had no idea what software to use. Eventually I ended up using OpenOffice Writer and it was difficult to position text and images freely on the page.

Please recommend some good layout and text publishing tools to create books and magazines. A feature to save as PDF would be a plus point.

ms word 2000 is great for magazines to handle multi column page or if you're really into it, i think adobe pagemaker will do the trick it's the same page layout software used in printing presses.

I tried Adobe Pagemaker a long time ago, it seemed really good. OpenOffice writer works fine for me though. It even has that Export to PDF.

Another friend in college uses Microsoft Publisher. You can write to Postscript from there and then convert that to PDF I'm sure. Perhaps you should give that a shot too.

It looks pretty cool actually. But I didn't want to design a picture. I wanted tools for the inner layout.
