Lock Windows XP when I close my laptop lid? -
07-20-2008, 07:36 AM
I know this is the tutorials section, but I didn't know where else to post this so.....here goes:
Recently I have been having a certain problem - "people" prying into my PC. Anyway, I use WinKey + L to keep them out. It works, but is tiring. Is there a way to achieve the same effect via script or application when I close my laptop, etc.?

hey stealthboy,
you can use Lock My PC 4..you can use hotkey to lock/unlock your lap. even more, it has other features like:
Custom lock screens and transparent lock screen options - your computer can be used as a presentation machine - the screen displays pictures or video, but nobody can touch your computer;
Secure Lock before Windows welcome/logon screen;
Displaying unsuccesfull unlock attempts - you will be notified if anyone tried to unlock your computer;
If Lock My PC is used in muilti-user mode, a supervisor can unlock the computer without closing user session;
You can lock CD/DVD ROM doors along with the desktop, keyboard and mouse - this can prevent CD media from being stolen while you are out;
Command line support allows you to use Lock My PC in Internet kiosks.

You can adjust the power options so that when you close the lid, when it resumes from stand by(after you open the lid again) the operating system will ask for a password. For that you need to have already a password on your account active and of course you need to have the option selected in the power management options menu.
GL!

That would be a good solution, but I don't want it to into standby. If I were coding it, someone told me I'd have to write a driver to capture PO_CB_LID_SWITCH_STATE and send it to my application. Lucky me, I have no experience writing drivers.

I use WIN L as well. Whenever I close my laptop, it just goes to standby... disconnects from the internet and everything. If there was a way to stop THAT, I would be grateful. :P
