I've tried that before and it really helped. Awesome tutorial although it takes some time for me to load because of the image explanations.

This is one cool easy to use web server: ERFAN Server is a light weight stand alone web server witch will allow you to start PHP, APACHE and MySQL services on your PC in order to setup web applications and programming.
The program is completely compatible with Joomla/Mambo/Mitra and support Unicode UTF8 by default, It is also has a good interface to manage database and projects, this version supports PHP5 and it is only 6 MB.

fyi: servers done like this or just hosted on a home computer does not have reliability in uptime. | | | | | | | | Platinum Member

Great tutorial! But here are some things I want to point out:
Apache - Really Apache was designed for *nix operating systems. It wasn't really designed to run on Windows with 100% realibality at all.
PHP5 - PHP5 on Windows doesn't really mix either. Some webapps like Gallery 2 doesn't really like being run on Windows. Also, by default, CURL on PHP5 for Windows is not compiled with it by default.
MySQL - Works ok on Windows. nuff said here
Also, this tutorial completely lacks of any information of DNS. DNS is crucial when you decide to run your own webserver using a domain name as the address of the webserver. You need to have a DNS server running in order to use a domain name for your own webserver. You're better off on installing Linux on your machine or a seperate machine and test the settings around on that Linux install. Apache and PHP is part of the LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) platform, so run it on Linux. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
