Mandriva (or mandrake) is for the beginers alsow ubuntu, I work with SUSE 10.2, it`s preety cool

ive heard gentoo should be pretty good as well, but maybe not for linux beginners

I have started with slackware switched to ubuntu(I love ubuntu).Now i`m using both kanotix and ubuntu.I like them because they are debian

Do you mean the latest version of the Kernal or the latest version of a specific distro? (example: Ubuntu, PCLinux, Debian, etc)

Personally I like PCLinuxOS because it has a nice GUI, its stable, and it works well with Wine (the program, not the stuff that comes out of grapes )
I have also heard that Ubuntu, Feather, and Fedora
FreeOS is a great site, thanks!
